Futsal in Klessheim

On Thursday, March 27th, a team from UP which consisted of: Paul, Simon, Patrick, John and Austin, was invited to the Tourism School in Klessheim to play futsal (indoor soccer).  Our team played teams from both the tourism school and a group of international students from Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITH) Klessheim for a nice intercultural sporting activity.  There was some fast-paced and entertaining futsal being played by all three teams.  However, our team played well and with the help of the fans was able to win the tournament. After the games, the teams spoke with each other about schooling systems and different sports in their respective countries.  There was even a student from the tourism school who was a Seattle Seahawks fan! Everyone enjoyed their time during and after the event.  Below, are some of the pictures that were taken after the event.

Frühlingsreise 2014

Einer der Hauptgründe, warum sich so viele Studenten für das Salzburg Programm interessieren, ist die Frühlingsreise.  In diesen 19 Tagen sieht man Venedig, Florenz, Rom, Athen, 6 Kleinstädte, und 12 Kirchen und Kathedralen, den Vatikan, 6 Museen, 3 Klöster, den Vesuvius, und 7 archäologische Fundstätten.

Am 15. Februar fing unsere Frühlingsreise an.  Roland holte uns um 7 Uhr mit dem Bus ab und wir fuhren mit Frau Loos und Pater Mark los.  Nach sechs Stunden kamen wir in Padua an und wir besuchten sofort die Scrovegni (Arena) Kapelle.  Dort befinden sich Giottos berühmte Freskos.  Um hineinzugehen mussten wir alle erst mal 15 Minuten in einem Trockenraum sitzen, damit die Feuchtigkeit von draußen die Kunst nicht zerstört.  Danach sahen wir die Basilika di Sant’Antonio, nachdem wir das Gattamelata Monument von Donatello gesehen hatten.

Spieleabend mit Schülerinnen des ABZ St. Josef

Besuch der Schülerinnen des ABZ St. Josef im UP Center.

Bereits im November durfte eine unserer Deutsch-Gruppen mit dieser Schülerinnengruppe im ABZ St. Josef ein österreichisches Menü kochen und genießen (Blog-Eintrag). Dieses Mal kamen die Schülerinnen zum gemeinsamen Spieleabend ins UP Center.

Im Gepäck hatten die jungen Leute deutschsprachige Spiele, die nach dem ersten gegenseitigen Kennenlernen gemeinsam gespielt wurden.

International Basketball Tournament

On Thursday, January 30, our UP students were invited to the Tourism Schools Salzburg Klessheim (http://en.ts-salzburg.at/) to take part in an international basketball tournament.

Our team: Simon, John, Paul, Austin, and Patrick competed against one team of students from the tourism school and the third team consisted of students from the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITH) Klessheim (http://en.ts-salzburg.at/locations/ith/).

Everyone had a good time playing enthusiastically and energetically, cheered by their many fans. Our UP team played very well and won.

What a nice intercultural sports event!

Deutsch 201 Kochprojekt mit ABZ St. Josef

Am 8. November haben die Studierenden von Deutsch 201 zum Abschluss der Unterrichtseinheit: Essen – Trinken – Kochen ein Projekt mit den Schülerinnen einer berufsbildenden höheren Schule in Salzburg, dem ABZ St. Josef, durchgeführt. Sie haben ein typisch österreichisches Menü gemeinsam gekocht und gegessen. Dabei haben die Teilnehmer und Teilnehmerinnen Deutsch und Englisch gesprochen. Kaitlin Reeves

Hello everyone. My name is Kaitlin Reeves and I am the new Salzburg Activities blogger. My family moved to Germany when I was four, and we have been living there ever since. I attended German school until 4th grade, at which time I enrolled in the US military school on the base close to my house. I chose to attend the Salzburg program precisely so that I could have one year of living close to home during my time at the University of Portland. I am majoring in Elementary Education and German and hope to teach overseas, once I get my license.

I’m sure you have noticed the difference between my blogs and those from previous years: they are in German. I hope this does not deter you from reading it, though. In the next few months I should be posting about the many exciting things that we are doing. There will be a few small entries for a couple more weeks, but in about three weeks we go on our fall tour, which we are all very excited about and should result in quite an extensive blog entry.
